Keven L. Ates (Ph.D. Candidate) BS & MS Univ of Texas at Dallas

Research Interest VEGGIE: "Visual Environment for Graph Grammars: Induction and Engineering", a visual language and computing tool.
FAÇADE: the "Fast and Automatic Clustering Approach to Data Engineering", a data mining tool.
Current Projects Keven is currently working on his PhD project, VEGGIE (Visual Environment for Graph Grammars: Induction and Engineering), a context sensitive graph grammar induction and parsing tool. It is based on the previous tools for Spatial Graph Grammars (Dr. Jun Kong) and the latest version of the SubdueGL induction engine (Dr. Jacek Kukluk).
He has also contributed to the effort to expand the functionality of FAÇADE and to organize the software as a research tool library for use in a wide variety of disciplines. His efforts have extended the software from a strictly 2D tool to a generic N-D tool.
A future goal of VEGGIE is to incorporate FAÇADE resulting in VEGGIE+DM to induce grammars for and analyze social networks.
Other interests include visual modeling tools for physical processes, CAD applications, VR, software design tools, GUI design tools, and applications of graph theory. He is continually revising his understanding of computational science including its application and effect on the human experience.

Research Interest Data Mining & Visualization, XML transformation, Mobile web design, spatial graph grammars
Current Projects Pushpa is currently working on mining, analysis and visualizaiton of eBay user data including the study of seller/buyer interaction, user behavior trends, social network analysis. One project is extracting "My eBay" data for tree generation and usage towards mobile screens. She is also working on creating automatic tools to enhance GUI for existing eBay tools.

Research Interest Syntax and semantics of visual programming languages, visual prototyping tool, and graph transformation.
Current Projects Su Te is currently working on developing a generic framework for describing semantics of visual languages. One of the concepts in this framework is to transform a visual language into an abstract syntax through which its semantics is established. Automatic verification of a visual language will also be made possible through its visual semantics. Operational, axiomatic and denotation semantics are considered in this research.

Research Interest Data Clustering and Information Visualization
Current Projects Yu is working on combining the application-independent criteria and users, specific needs to produce user-desired clustering results. He has been applying the proposed clustering algorithm to spatial pattern discovery, text mining, bioinformatics, and GIS/remote sensing data processing. Two corresponding tools have been developed. One is for graph clustering and the other is for spatial clustering.

Research Interest Visual Model Management, Access Control, and Visualization of the XML and Transformation based on Graph Grammars
Current Projects Guanglei is working on a visual Model Management system and its security extension with access control. His previous work was on a visual approach to automatic syntax checking of any structured documents written in XML and transformations between different XML vocabularies, for applications such as multimedia presentation.

Research Interest Visual languages, Model driven architecture, Human-computer Interaction
Current Projects Jun is working on a Spatial Specification and Reasoning Framework. Such a framework is aiming at providing a friendly interface to users, a set of graphical tools to designers for graph grammar development, a powerful graph grammar formalism equipped with an efficient parser, and an intelligent mechanism to automatically validate spatial consistency. The framework can be applied to various types of applications, such as mathematical expression recognition, Web transformation, multimedia authoring and presentation, and software engineering.
