About The Visual Computing Laboratory

The Visual Computing Laboratory (VisComp) at The University of Texas at Dallas is active in the research areas of Visual Languages, Visual Programming and Software Visualization. Visual Language research is concerned with the design and use of higher dimensional languages as compared to the traditional one dimensional text-based languages. These languages are generally represented as graphs and are suitable for many applications. Visual Programming research is concerned with the practical application of visual languages in specific domains. Such applications include web page transformation, UML document parsing, and data mining for structural content.

VESTIGE
Visual Engineering for Specification, Transformation, Integration, Generation, and Editing of digital systems

VESTIGE is one of our major research activities. The primary aim of this project framework is to develop visual language and visual programming technology with its applcation to such technologies as multimedia/web authoring and presentation, software engineering, digital document interchange, data mining, and parallel/distributed programming.

The group's latest research has been in a spatial graph grammar formalism and its applications. Example applications include XML generation and transformation and mutlimedia document design. Data mining visualization is also one of the current research directions.
